Fort Plain -Catherine Blencoe, 91, a long time Fort Plain resident, passed away on Wednesday December 16, 2020 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was born October 22, 1929 in the Town of Minden, the daughter of the late James v. and Bessie (Gillette) Mang and was educated in Fort Plain schools.
Her marriage to David Blencoe took place on November 22, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of 60 years until the passing of David on August 14, 2007.
For many years, Catherine along with her husband, David owned and operated the Blendale Farms on Clinton Road in Canajoharie.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush, NY.
As matriarch of the family, Catherine's life was centered around her loved ones. She always put the needs and concerns of her devoted daughters and their family first. Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family and loved the quality time she spent with each of her grandchildren.
Survivors include her six daughters, Marion Pitcher and John Mulligan of Richfield Springs, Phyllis Reese and her husband Ed of Fort Plain, Janet Trumbull - Alford and her husband Frank of Fort Plain, Joan Ploss and her husband John of Stratford, Linda Smith of Fort Plain and Karen Fish and her husband Jim of Burlington Flatts, NY; 14 grandchildren, several great grand children and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her granddaughters, Deborah Reese and Meagen Smith; son-in-law, Robert Trumbull, brothers, George and David Mang and her sisters, Mary Edmunds and Annabelle Hazzard.
Due to the current COVID - 19 restrictions, the family will meet privately to spend time with their mother and grandmother. A graveside service will take place in the spring at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY, 518-568-7040. All memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice or perform a good deed for someone in need.
