Herkimer - Carl Robert Sahre, 81, of Herkimer, New York, died at his home Saturday, May 28, 2022.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Elaine Sahre and his nephew Greg Sahre of Vestal; his niece Sharon Roeder, née Sahre, his nephew-in-law Michael, and his great nephews Christopher and Matthew Roeder of Victor; his nephew Paul, his niece-in-law, Emily, née Oberman, and his great nephews Harold and Eli Sahre of Bedford; his cousin Roger Blanchard of Broken Arrow, OK; and many close friends who enriched his life.
He is pre-deceased by his mother, Olivia Doris Muir, his brother Kenneth E. Sahre and his nephew Kenneth L. Sahre.
Carl faithfully served as an aid under NY State Congressman Donald J. Mitchell before continuing his civilian service as a public relations specialist at Griffis Airforce Base in Rome, NY for more than 20 years. In addition to his other jobs, Carl worked on the executive board and as a camp director for the Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years. Carl pursued his interest in preserving the history of the Civil War by joining the Civil War Medical Coalition living history group and was a longtime member of the Civil War Heritage Foundation. He took pride in researching and portraying the lives of Captain Nelson Ames, 1st Regt NY light artillery and Daniel M Holt, MD 121st Regt NY. Carl was also an avid sports fan and in addition to his years playing as a goalie in an adult hockey league in Herkimer, NY, he was an avid fan of NASCAR, Utica Comets hockey and the New York Yankees.
