Ilion - Bruce Thomas Coffey 66, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Alpine Nursing Center, Little Falls, NY from dementia complications.
He was born on October 19, 1957, in Oshawa, Canada, the son of Lorna (Deans) Coffey and the late Maxwell Coffey. Upon moving to the United States, Bruce was raised and educated in Utica, NY.
Bruce proudly served in the United States Navy, as a Fire Control Technician (missiles) aboard the USS Richmond K. Turner. He was honorably discharged on November 7, 1978.
Upon his discharge, he attended Mohawk Valley Community College and became an electrician. He was a lead electrician at the Matt Brewery Company in Utica for several years where he made and left many close friends that he never forgot. Most recently he was employed at Remington Arms in Ilion.
Bruce met and married the love of his life and best friend, Barbara Carona in 2008. Together they shared many happy memories, camping, traveling to the Outer Banks each year and most of all "Friday Night Music Nights" at home with dancing by candlelight and enjoying each other's company.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barb; his mother, Lorna of Virginia; a sister, Leslie of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Kim Coffey and Susan Carona; and brother-in-law, Mike (Linda). He is also survived by his stepchildren, Andy (Mary), who was as close to a son as he could be; Jennie (Paul) and Amy (Mike); his adored grandsons, "The Boys", Michael, Matthew, and Joey; two half-brothers, Stephen Damico and wife Tina of Virginia and Neil Cashman of Virginia; and many friends.
He was pre-deceased by his father, Max; brother and best buddy, Jeff and his furry companion of 14 years, Max.
In keeping with Bruce's wishes there are no public visitation. Burial at Mohawk Cemetery with take place at the convenience of his family. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. In lieu of flowers please make all memorial contributions in Bruce's memory to the Hospice and Palliative Care, 4227 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
