Barbara J. (Lykes) Wiers

Herkimer – Barbara J. Wiers, 90, of Herkimer, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Wynn Hospital.

Born on April 21, 1935, in Mineola, Long Island, NY, Barbara was the daughter of the late Carl and Olive (Okill) Lykes. She was a proud graduate of St. Johnsville High School.

From 1955 to 1986, Barbara was married to Richard B. Wiers.

Barbara began her professional career at the former Savings Bank of Utica in Herkimer, where she started as a teller and, through dedication and hard work, rose to become Branch Manager. By the time she retired in 1994, she had earned the title of Compliance Officer at the bank’s main branch in Utica. Following her retirement, she continued her career in real estate, working for Martha’s Realty and Bruce Ward & Co. in Herkimer.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Barbara was known for her warmth, humor, and spirited personality. She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures — knitting, painting, and taking fun-filled trips to the casino— but her greatest happiness came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A devoted fan of Clay Aiken, she loved attending his concerts and proudly called herself a lifelong “Claymate.

Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Susan Davis-Shedd and husband David of Pulaski, NY, and Pamela Guido and husband Daniel of Mohawk, NY; four cherished grandchildren, Matthew Davis, Tiffany Foster and husband Neil, Paige Reina and husband Anthony, and Brian Guido and partner Laura; and four adored great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Benjamin, Lucas, and Andréa. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Nancy Schneegas, along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Schneegas.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, a graveside service will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. A celebration of Barbara's life will follow at 12:00 noon at Sorrento's Restaurant, Central Ave., Ilion, NY. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the locally owned and family-operated Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY.
