Murphy, NC/ Herkimer – William J. (Bill) Bernier, 50, of Murphy, NC, passed away on Saturday May 5, 2012 at the Murphy Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born August 20, 1961 in Herkimer, and was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1979. He also attended Hudson Valley Community College.
Bill was a self-employed contractor and attended Mountain Valley Community Church in Murphy, NC.

Bill’s life was centered around his family, and cherished the time he spent with his children. He was a hands on dad who always put his two boys first.

Mr. Bernier enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Motorcycle, and going on nature walks with his wife and dogs. He was an avid football and track fan and he loved to watch his sons play sports. At one time he was a former body builder, winning many awards.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Georgio Bernier of Murphy, NC; two sons, Kyle William Bernier and Kody William Bernier both of Murphy, NC; his mother, Rose Bernier of Herkimer; a brother, Michael Bernier and wife Michelle of Naples, Fl; two sisters, Deborah Tarris and husband Victor and Jackie Bernier Foote and husband Michael all of Herkimer; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Jacques Bernier.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 1:00 pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 329 South Washington St., Herkimer, NY 866-1500. The family will be receiving friends and relatives on Saturday May 19, 2012 from 11:00 am until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bill Bernier to help with medical expenses c/o Joyce Bernier, 805 Cobb Circle, Murphy, NC 28906.
