Robert L. Williams, Sr.

Ilion – Robert L. Williams (Bob, Bompa), Sr., 81 of Ilion, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 29, 2018 at Little Falls Hospital.

He was born July 21, 1937 in Ilion, NY the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Plunkett) Williams. Bob was a graduate of Ilion High School and furthered his education at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Mr. Williams was a United States Army veteran, Enlisting on July 27, 1957 and was honorably discharged on January 29, 1962 with the rank of Private First Class.

On May 24, 1958 he was united in marriage to the former Bonnie G. Davis in St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Yorkville, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 52 years, until the passing of Bonnie on November 23, 2010.

Bob was last employed as a bus driver for Bernie Bus Company in Utica, NY.  Prior to that, he worked and retired from the Village of Ilion, in the Department of Public Works.

Mr. Williams was an active member of the Crowley Barnum American Legion Post 25 in Mohawk, NY.

Robert proved himself a loving and caring father and grandfather, always placed the needs of his loved ones first. He enjoyed the simpler things in life, spending time in nature, fishing, and could always be seen taking rides in the car and enjoying the scenery and restaurants of the Mohawk Valley.  He loved to draw and was especially good at nature sketches. 

Survivors include his children, Wendy L. Mancuso of LeRoy, NY, Michael L. Williams of Utica, Kenneth P. Williams and his husband Todd Blodgett of Little Falls, Robert L. Williams, Jr. and his wife Renee of Mohawk, and Steven P. Williams of Utica;  three cherished grandchildren, Lauren Williams and fiancée Seth Blovat, Tristen Williams and Brianna Williams;  two sisters, Elizabeth (Betty Ann) Warren of Ilion and Diane Brown and partner, Terry of Mohawk. He is also survived by his in-laws, Thomas Davis and wife Judy of New Hartford, Doris Trojan of Utica and Kathy Lukaszek and husband John of Remsen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Wednesday September 5, 2018 at 10:00 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank) 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500, with Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, officiating. Burial will follow at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, NY with full military honors accorded.  Family and friends may call at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 4 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contribution to a charity of one’s choice.
