Ilion - Richard M. (Dick) Naugle, 87, of Ilion, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 9, 2017 at his home with his devoted family by his side.

He was born October 28, 1929 in Herkimer the son of the late Bryon and Mary (Mumford) Naugle. Dick was a graduate of Mohawk High School.

His marriage to Shirley Brown took place on July 7, 1951 at the North Columbia United Methodist Church. The couple shared a blessed union of 61 years until the passing of Shirley on November 28, 2012.

Mr. Naugle was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was enlisted on January 17, 1951 and was honorably discharged on January 6, 1954 with the rank of Sergeant.

Dick delivered for the Evening Telegram for over 20 years and also delivered for the Observer Dispatch for 14 years throughout the Mohawk Valley. At one time he worked on the Brown Farm in the Town of Columbia. He also served his community as Justice of the Peace in the Town of North Columbia during the 1960's and 1970's.

A man devoted to his family, Dick's life was centered around his children and grandchildren. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling especially at the Ilion Bowling Alley. In his later years, Dick loved to relax and complete puzzles and found much comfort with his pets.

Survivors include his son, Garreth (Gary) Naugle and fiancée Jean of Ilion; a daughter, Kimberly Washburn of Ilion; eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Family and friends may call at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (Next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500, on Sunday March 12, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm.

Richard's funeral will commence on Sunday March 12, 2017 at 4:00 pm at the chapel of the funeral home, with Pastor Hans Drews, officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place in the spring at Cedarville Cemetery, Cedarville, NY. All memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
