St. Johnsville - Regina Doris “Dory” (Bellen) Gee, age 88, a long time resident of St. Johnsville, NY passed away suddenly and peacefully on Tuesday May 22, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.
She was born on April 22, 1930 in her family home in Canajoharie, NY. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bessie (Borden) Bellen and received her education in Canajoharie schools.
Dory was married to George W. Gee, Jr. who preceded her in death.
Dory was last employed as a housekeeper at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam, NY. She had many other jobs and often worked more than one job at a time. Some of the other places she worked included the Montgomery County Nursing Home in Yosts, NY, the Beech Nut factory in Canajoharie, NY and at Smith’s Market in St. Johnsville, NY where she worked in the butcher and deli departments. While at Smith’s Market she often made the salads and the clam chowder for the St. Johnsville’s Fireman’s fair.
Dory was dedicated to her home and family. She loved to cook and her family along with many of her friends thought she was one of the best cooks in the valley. She was a talented amateur artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, music, photography, shopping, going for scenic car rides and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Dory is survived by her son Douglass Gee (wife Cyndi) of Lassellsville, her daughter Marsha McGowan of St. Johnsville, her daughter Gina Scheck (husband Thomas) of Itasca, IL, and her son Dan Gee (wife Renee) of St. Johnsville; four grandchildren, Devin Gee and his wife Kiersten, Corissa Vose and her husband Kent, Ryan Scheck and Frank Scheck; a great grandchild, Cayson Gee; a sister-in-law, Catherine Bellen of St. Johnsville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dory was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Donald Bellen, her sisters, Anita Smith, Patricia Dockerty, Diana Swartz, and her stepmother, Rose Bellen.
Visitation will be held on Saturday June 2, 2018 from 11:00am to 12:30pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (located next to the Masonic Lodge) at 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY. The funeral service will be officiated by Reverend David Johnson at the funeral home and will immediately follow visitation. After the service Dory will be laid to rest at West St. Johnsville Cemetery.
