Leora Potter Obituary

St. Johnsville – Leora Alice (Jones) Potter, 93, passed away on Sunday June 2, 2019 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Leora, who was still known as “Teenie” by many was born on March 13, 1926, the daughter of the late Eric Jones and Jennie (Borst) Jones Pueschel.

In 1932 she moved to St. Johnsville and lived with Sheldon and Lottie Weaver.  After the passing of Sheldon, She was adopted by “Aunt” Lottie on July 30, 1941. Lottie passed away in 1956.

Leora began school in St. Johnsville where she attended country school in Youkers Bush for a couple years while she resided on Mill Road and then graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1943.

On April 24, 1947 she was united in marriage to Silas “Bud” Potter in Gouverneur, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 31 years until the passing of Bud on March 1, 1979.

She worked at Arkell & Smiths, Automotive Fibres and the former Ford Garage. In 1955 she along with her husband purchased the Wesley Fox Oil Business. They ran the S. F. Potter Fuel Co. for nearly 25 years and sold the business in 1979.

Leora was a faithful member of the Grace Christian Church and was president of the Women’s Fellowship. She also enjoyed being a member of the Senior Saints and was on its Board of Directors.

Survivors include two sons, Dale E. (Faith) Potter of Fort Plain and Wayne F. (Diana) Potter of St. Johnsville; four grandchildren, Renee (Jeff) Swartz, Dale J. (Cindy) Potter, Jerry (Debbie) Potter and Tina (Mark) Weaver; eight great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren; sister – in –law, Shirley Shannon of St. Johnsville and several  nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was pre-deceased by a sister, Helen Peruzzi.

In keeping with Leora’s wishes graveside services will be held on Saturday June 15, 2019 at 1:00 pm at St. Johnsville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY. In lieu of flowers please make all memorial contributions to either the Grace Christian Church, 20 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY 13452 of to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
