Mohawk - Joan G. (Jenny) Casadonte, 98, a life long Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 29, 2018 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY.
She was born May 13, 1920 at the family homestead in Mohawk the daughter of the late Frank P. and Agnes (Yots) Casadonte. Joan was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1938, which was the first year of the school's centralization.
For 48 years until her retirement in 1990, Joan was a secretary for the former Gloo & Gloo Insurance Company in Mohawk.
Ms. Casadonte was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk and its altar rosary society.
Joan's life was centered around her family and truly loved the quality time she spent with them. She was an avid New York Yankee and Notre Dame College Football fan. Joan enjoyed attending Mohawk high school sporting activities and was active in the boosters club.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, John Casadonte and wife Shirley of Mohawk, Mary Pizzo and husband Fran of San Diego, California, David Climek and wife Sandy and Linda Baum; several great nieces, great nephews, great great nephews, great great nieces and many cousins including a special cousin Joseph Licari and wife Kathy. She is also survived by many special friends, Gail & Paul Whitaker and family, Ken Cook Sr. and family, Carolyn Buttenschon, Doris Marmet, Linda Cockett, Irene Marmet and Jean Platts.
She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Theresa M. Casadonte, Filomena M. Casadonte; a brother, Pasquale J. Casadonte and wife Betty, and a special friend, Pat Cook.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 2, 2018 at 10:30 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500 and at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated by Reverend Leo Potvin and assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday October 2, 2018 from 9:30 am until the time of the services at 10:30.
