St. Johnsville - Harold L. (Hal) Wheeler, Jr., age 79, of the Town of Ephratah, passed away on Sunday June 2, 2019 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born August 14, 1939 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Harold L. (Sr.), and Wilma V. (Nichols) Wheeler. Hal was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and furthered his education at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Hal was united in marriage to Cynthia E. Frasier on January 1, 2003 in the Town of Ephratah.
In 1961 Hal proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, followed by many years of active service with the Air National Guard. Hal spent the majority of his career working for GTE (phone company), retiring as District Manager. After his retirement, Hal re-entered the workforce as a salesman for Logical Net, then later he worked for the Fulton County Soil and Water Department.
A man dedicated to his family; Hal's life was centered around his loved ones. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter with an extraordinary passion and respect for nature. Hal spent many years hunting in Upstate New York and enjoyed several amazing trips to the Northwest Territories (Canada).
Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Cynthia; his son, Michael (Erin Callahan) Wheeler and their daughter Emma; three daughters, Sarah Wheeler (Zack Luzzi), Tracy Wheeler Viet and her children Jennifer, Nicole and Jordan, and Shelley Wheeler Kirkpatrick and her children Brenna and Sam; two sisters, Kathy Swears and Jeannette (Ken) Simpson; two step-sons, Andy (Taylor) Goodman and Joshua Goodman and son Wyatt; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant son, Todd Wheeler and an infant daughter, Christa Wheeler.
In keeping with Hal’s wishes, funeral services and burial at Ephratah Rural Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
