He was born August 14, 1939 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Harold L. (Sr.), and Wilma V. (Nichols) Wheeler.  Hal was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and furthered his education at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Hal was united in marriage to Cynthia E. Frasier on January 1, 2003 in the Town of Ephratah.

A man dedicated to his family; Hal's life was centered around his loved ones. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter with an extraordinary passion and respect for nature.  Hal spent many years hunting in Upstate New York and enjoyed several amazing trips to the Northwest Territories (Canada).

Survivors include his loving wife of 16 years, Cynthia; his son, Michael (Erin Callahan) Wheeler and their daughter Emma; three daughters, Sarah Wheeler (Zack Luzzi), Tracy Wheeler Viet and her children Jennifer, Nicole and Jordan, and Shelley Wheeler Kirkpatrick and her children Brenna and Sam; two sisters, Kathy Swears and Jeannette (Ken) Simpson; two step-sons, Andy (Taylor) Goodman and Joshua Goodman and son Wyatt; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Todd Wheeler and an infant daughter, Christa Wheeler.
