Mohawk – Dorothy J. Zaborek, 93, of Mohawk, passed away on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at her home.

She was born August 23, 1923 in Ilion, NY the daughter of the late Elwood and Jane (Parkinson) Knapp. Dorothy was educated in Ilion elementary school and was a graduate of Mohawk High School.

Dorothy was married to Bennie Zaborek who preceded her in death in 1972.

Mrs. Zaborek was last employed at the receptionist and bookkeeper for Dr. J. Hersfeld in Mohawk. At one time she worked as a clerk for the Little Falls YMCA. Prior to that she was a bookkeeper for the Herkimer Historical Society.

She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Mohawk. Dorothy was also a member of the Crowley – Barnum American Legion Post 25 Ladies Auxiliary in Mohawk and Colonel Marinus Willett Mohawk Valley Chapter of the DAR.

Dorothy enjoyed the simple things in life, she liked to walk around her neighborhood and visit with her friends and neighbors.  She found much tranquility going to Old Forge to walk the trails of Bald Mountain.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Pridgeon of Buffalo; her grandchildren, Kiel (Mary) Pridgeon, Marc Pridgeon and Robert Pridgeon; 7 great grandchildren; and special friends, Ruth Riel, Mary Brandt, Cheryl and Steve Welch, Bob and Jeannette Schenk and Bob and Chris La Londe. She is also survived by her canine companion, Muffin.

She was pre-deceased by a son, Robert Zaborek, a grandson, Kristopher Zaborek and a granddaughter, Melissa McCann.

In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY. All memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407.
