Donald J. (Don) Reile

Ilion - Donald J. (Don) Reile, 81, a long time Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 11, 2018 at his home with his loving and devoted family by his side.

He was born December 6, 1936 in Utica, NY the son of the late Margaret (Harris) Reile and was a 1955 graduate of Proctor High School in Utica, NY.

His marriage to Mary A. Flaherty took place on January 4, 1958 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Utica, NY.

Mr. Reile was a United States Air Force veteran, proudly serving his country. Don then worked for two years for the Martin Company in Denver CO as a quality control technician on the Titan Missile. Then relocated to Plattsburg NY and worked on the Atlas Missile during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Don and his family then moved to Ilion NY. He was owner and operator of Ecco Video in Utica, NY for many years until his retirement. He was the first to open a video store in the Mohawk Valley.

A man devoted to his family, Don's best times were spent with his loved ones. He was a loving and caring husband, father, friend, grandfather and great grandfather who always put the needs of his family first. He was happiest in the company of others and sharing his detailed stories. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed the quality time he spent fishing. He enjoyed sitting in his boat, relaxing in the tranquility of nature at his camp on Singleton Lake in Canada.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; a son Donn S. Reile and Maureen of Colonie, NY; his brothers; Ronald Reile and wife Beverly of Ilion, Paul Reile and wife Patricia of Utica, Richard Reile of Florida, JC Reile and wife Roberta of Florida, Mitchell Reile and his wife Karen of Herkimer; and his sister Valerie Duncan and husband Gordon of Herkimer. A loving sister-in-law, Kathy Parker and her daughter Julie Orillio and husband Dick. His grandchildren, Brian Reile and wife Lisa of Herkimer; James Reile and wife Ashley of North Carolina, Bradley Reile of Brooklyn, Rachel Reile of Jefferson, and Mary Reile of Ilion. A daughter-in-law, Linda (Reile) Pierce and husband Scott Pierce of Ilion. He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Brian, Traevian, Peyton, Kennedy, Zephanea, and several nieces and nephews.

He is pre-deceased by a son Matthew J. Reile and Evelyn Reile whom he shared a very special relationship with.

Funeral services and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany Street. Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500.
