St. Johnsville – David R. Sammons, 87, of St. Johnsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 27, 2019 at the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Johnsville, NY.
He was born April 14, 1932 at the family homestead in the Town of Oppenheim. He was the son of the late Simeon LeRoy and Marguerite (Canfield) Sammons and was educated locally.
His marriage to Lois D. Foster took place on August 20, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Johnstown.
For over 32 years, David was employed at the Little Falls – Fonda Bus Company where he lastly held the position of manager.
David was a member of the Oppenheim Volunteer Fire Department and was a councilman for the Town of Oppenheim.
A man dedicated to his family, David’s life was centered around his loved ones. He enjoyed the quality time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his younger years he enjoyed square dancing with his devoted wife, Lois.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Lois; a daughter, Sandra Blanchard of Schenectady; two sisters, Marguerite Sammons and Muriel DeLucco both of Dolgeville; two grandsons; Keith M. Trickler, Jr., of St. Johnsville and Elias S. Sammons of Middleburg, NY; 5 great grandchildren, a son-in-law, Ron Krupa of Amsterdam, a sister-in-law, Helen Foster of Johnstown, and several nieces & nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Lorraine C. Krupa; his siblings, Frank Sammons, Ethel Elwood, Beverly LaBorne, LeRoy Sammons, and William Sammons.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 2, 2019 at 10:00 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040 with Reverend Tom Jones, officiating. Burial will follow at Ephratah Rural Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday May 1, 2019 from 5 – 7 pm. All memorial contribution may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
