Charles J. Scaparo

Herkimer - Charles J. Scaparo, 82, along time Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 17, 2018 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Ilion, NY with his loving wife June by his side.

He was born April 3, 1936 in Frankfort, the son of the late John and Theresa Scaparo and attended Ilion Schools.

His marriage to June Daley took place on July 26, 1958 at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, NY.

Charles started his career in the food industry with his family at the former Dutch Kitchen in Ilion. For many years he worked along side with his parents running the former Elm Tree Hall in Fort Plain and later became owner with his wife, June. Then up until his retirement, he was owner and operator along with his wife of the former Beef and Burger in Ilion.

Mr. Scaparo was a selfless husband, family man, and patriarch. He devotedly cared for the needs of his wife, and children with dedication and a sacrificing heart. He often volunteered in his community and church. He was a man of strong religious values who read the Bible every day. He was a faithful servant to the Lord.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, June; two sons, John Scaparo and daughter in-law Connie of Canton, Michigan; and Mark Scaparo and daughter in-law Lori of Powhatan, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Justin and wife Sarah, Hannah, Ian, Benjamin, Jack and Ryan; two step-grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia; sister, Natalie Pietrocini of Lakeland, Florida; sister in-law, Charlene Taffi of Evert Washington State; brother in-law, Renny Daley and & his wife Sunnie of Tucson Arizona; and his nieces & nephews, Michael Maphia & his wife Ivy, Roger Taffi, Ron Taffi, Cherri Conti & her husband Richard, Terri Mantelli, Merri Brugman & her husband Jim, and Ralph J. Mantelli.

He was pre-deceased by a sister in-law and brother in-law, Janet and Michael Maphia.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday November 26, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, NY with the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, pastor officiating. Burial at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY will take place in the spring. In keeping with Charles' wishes there are no public visitation.
