Brian S. Gay

Herkimer - Brian S. Gay, 55 a long time Herkimer resident, passed away on Thursday April 26, 2018 of a heart attack.

He was born August 11, 1962 in Herkimer, the son of the late William and Evelyn M. (Horning) Gay, Sr. Brian was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1980.

His marriage to Susan M. Searles took place on August 5, 2000 at the Newport United Methodist Church.

Brian was last employed at Remington Arms in Ilion, NY. Prior to that, he was employed at Utica Mack as a hydraulic mechanic for several years.

Mr. Gay was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club.

A man dedicated to his family, Brian’s life was centered around the well being of his wife, children and brother. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his first love was riding his Harley. He spent a lot of time teaching his son how to fix things in the garage. He also bought his daughter her first jeep and taught her how to drive it. He always made sure everything was taken care of, and put every single person besides himself first. Brian fought a long, hard battle, and refused to give up right until the very end. Brian is an irreplaceable man.

Survivors include his loving wife of 17 years, Susan; a daughter, Codi Gay of Herkimer; a son, Austin Gay of Herkimer; a brother, William Gay Jr., of Herkimer; a nephew, Jason Gay of Ilion (wife Jodi Gay); and Buster Klock of Herkimer, who is considered a father. He is also survived by several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Brian was pre-deceased by two brothers, Dennis Gay in 1985 and Randy Gay in 2015.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at 6:30 pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday May 1, 2018 from 4:00 pm until the time of the services at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted and made out to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington VA 22202. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
