Joseph Sudakow Obituary

Herkimer - Joseph John Sudakow, 74, of Herkimer passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Katherine Lutheran Health Care, Clinton, NY.

He was born on March 23, 1949, in Herkimer the son of the late Joseph and Lena (Fiorentino) Sudakow. Joe was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1967.

Mr. Sudakow was a United States Navy veteran, enlisting on October 29, 1968, as the Vietnam War was escalating. while serving his country, Joe served on the USS Mullinnix, in the Pacific, Mediterranean and the Caribbean.  He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1972, with the rank of BT3. After his discharge, Joe was in the Navy Reserves for two years.

He was married to the former Linda Rando who preceded him in death in 1997.

Joe was last employed as a baker at the DeIorios Bakery in Utica, NY.

He was a life member of the Herkimer VFW Michael S. Pliseck, Post 4915, where he served as chaplain and commander.  Joe served as the Memorial Day Parade Marshall in 2015. A fan of car racing from a young age, Joe enjoyed going to Fonda Speedway and Utica - Rome Speedway with his brother, Harold and his friend, Bob Fitch.

Survivors include his son, Joseph A. Sudakow; two sisters, Lucy Evans and husband Jack of Frankfort and Adeline Wixson and husband James of Dover, New Hampshire; a brother, Harold Sudakow of Herkimer; a grandson, Frankie Sudakow; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by a brother, Richard Sudakow; a sister, Julia Reals and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Sudakow.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 2 - 4 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A prayer service will follow at 4:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors accorded will take place later in the spring. In lieu of flowers please make all memorial contributions to the Herkimer VFW Michael S. Pliseck Post 4915, 131 Mohawk St., Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
