David Moynihan Obituary

Herkimer - David J. Moynihan, 71, of Herkimer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital, Utica, NY with his loving family by his side.

He was born on July 9, 1952, in Sapporo, Japan the son of the late John R. and Kisaragi J. (Goya) Moynihan. Dave was a graduate of Mohawk High School, class of 1970.

Mr. Moynihan was a United States Marine Corps veteran, enlisting on August 31,1971 and was honorably discharged on August 30, 1975, with the rank of Corporal.

On October 16, 1976, David was united in marriage to Janice Polito at St. Anthony's Church in Utica, NY.

Dave was last employed as a machine operator at Remington Arms in Ilion, NY.  

Mr. Moynihan was of the catholic faith. His life was centered around his loved ones, especially his loving family. Dave always put the need and concerns of his wife, daughters and grandchildren first and foremost. He was Mr. Fix-it to all, he was a teacher to many, and he was everyone’s repair man. 

From his silliness to his seriousness, he was perfect in every way. Known by his wife as ‘Babe’. Known by some as ‘Big Guy’. Known by his daughters as ‘Daddy’. Known by all his grandkids as ‘Pop or Poppa’. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Janice; three devoted daughters, Amy Randall, Kristine Wyborski and husband Michael, and Kayla Moynihan and significant other Kent Blair; his eight cherished grandchildren, Brianna, Jorden, Samantha, Gianiya, Danielle, Brayden, and Sophia. Also, two cherished great grandchildren, Angel and Marie; two sisters, Kathleen Krasko and Patricia Moynihan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his cherished granddaughter and best friend, Bailee Niznik, a brother-in-law, Thomas Krasko and a son-in-law, Cory Niznik.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 1 - 3:00 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to Hannaford Markets), 527 E. Albany St., Herkimer, NY. A prayer service will follow at 3:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers all memorial contributions may be made to the family, care of his wife, Janice Moynihan, 226 Dewey Avenue Herkimer New York 13350.
