Herkimer - Robert A. Fitch (Fitchie), age 60 a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from natural causes.

He was born January 17, 1957 in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1975.

His marriage to Deborah J. Broadbent took place on June 6, 1981 at the former Pentecostal Church in Herkimer, NY.

Until his retirement in 2012, Fitchie worked at the Herkimer Central School District as a custodian.

Robert was an active member of the New Life Church in Herkimer. He was very active in the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, as a Safety Officer. He was a large contributor in all of the community functions that the fire department hosted. He also was active in the Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity.

Robert was a kind hearted, respectful man, always concerned for others, and put the needs of his loved ones first. He enjoyed his carpentry projects and was known by all his friends and colleagues as a "Jack of all Trades". He found much enjoyment in camping and was a very avid fan of stock car racing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Deborah; a daughter, Stephanie Fitch of Herkimer, two grandchildren, Aubry and Breanne Sharrow; a sister, LouAnn Cosilmon of Herkimer; two brothers, Lynn Fitch and wife Linda of Arizona and Michael Fitch and wife Linda of Nevada; his mother-in-law, Sharon Rhodes of Herkimer; several nieces and nephews including Bryan Cosilmon of Ilion and Melissa Cosilmon of Utica.

He was predeceased by his mother, Helen (Grabinski) Fitch on April 14, 2006.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Friday December 1, 2017 from 3 pm – 6 pm at the New Life Church, 337 Protection Ave., Herkimer, NY. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm at the New Life Church with Pastor David Hayner, officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500. All memorial contributions may be made to either Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 148, Herkimer, NY 13350 or to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, 193 Main Road, PO Box 95, Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the church.
