California / Herkimer - Nicholas (Chippy) Barone, 81, a native of Herkimer, NY and a resident of San Diego, California passed away on Wednesday June 7, 2017 after a long battle with heart and lung disease.

Born on August 6, 1935, he was the son of the late Anthony and Jean (Donato) Barone.

Nicholas was a graduate of Herkimer High School, graduating fifth in his class in 1953. He went on to attend Purdue University earning his Bachelor of Science degree after which time he served two years in the United States Army and then four years in the Army Reserve, being honorably discharged in 1964. Nicholas went on to attend Penn State Annenberg School of Communication, receiving his Masters in Arts and Communication.

He lived in Guam for a time where he taught Math at the University of Guam. He eventually moved to Las Vegas before moving to San Diego. Nicholas always had a passion for the financial market and obtained his license to become a stock trader. He worked for a time at Bright House and the independently on his own. Days leading up to his death, he continued to ask his sister about the stock market.

Besides his parents, Nicholas was pre-deceased by a brother of seven months old also named Nicholas and his brother-in-law, Rodney Ferri.

He is survived by his good friend and companion, Charlotte Bowman Moseley of El Cajon, California and her son, Jerry Moseley who was always ready to lend a hand when Nicholas called; his sister, Judith Ferri of Herkimer; a nephew, Todd Ferri and wife Arlene and children Nicholas and Alana, a niece, Lonna Hart and husband Michael and son, Colin all of Herkimer.

A memorial mass for Nicholas will be at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph on Tuesday August 1, 2017 at 9:00 am with Reverend Quy Vo, pastor, officiating. Local arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY, 315-866-1500.
