Herkimer - Michael A. Nortz, 59, of Croghan, NY passed away peacefully on Friday November 18, 2016 at Homelife at Folts, Herkimer, NY with his loving family by his side.

He was born November 25, 1956 in Lowville, NY the son of Marie (Scott) Nortz and the late Harry Nortz. Mike was a graduate of Beaver River High School.

Mike was married to the former Lisa Bramhall, they celebrated 39 years together in May of this year. He was a loving husband and father, full of fun!

Mike started working for Lyndaker Logging while still in high school. Later he worked at the Lewis Paper Mill in Beaver Falls for 19 years. In 2001 he started working as a carpenter for a few years. After that he was owner and operator of Nortz's Custom Sawing in Croghan, NY. This was a passion of his and he took much pride in his job and the final product. Mike was a very talented wood worker, whether he was building a home or a cabinet or very unique furniture. He especially loved wood oddities and made the most of them in his own style.

A man dedicated to his family, Mike's life was centered around his loved ones. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed camping, four wheeling, snowmobiling and driving his ski boat with family and friends. He was given the nickname Driver Ed and was one of the best boat drivers for the Water Skiing Mountaineers Waterski club.

Mike was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He donated lumber he had sawn to the Adirondack ATV Riders club for their clubhouse building in Pitcairn. He also was a member of the Long Pond Sno Sled Club and Brantingham Snomads for several years, grooming trails for both clubs in the winter months.
