Matthew J. (Matt) Reile, 50, of Herkimer passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday July 20, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, NY.

He was born August 19, 1960 in Denver, Colorado the son of Donald J. & Mary A. (Flaherty) Reile. Matt was a graduate of Ilion High School, class of 1979 and also graduated from Herkimer County Community College with an Associate Degree.

His marriage to Linda Thomas took place on November 17, 1982 in Florida.

Matt was owner & operator of Reile’s Contractors in Herkimer, and was a mason by trade.

With family as his foremost priority, Matt centered his life around his loved ones, proving to be a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. His favorite time was spent with his cherished grandchildren.  An avid outdoorsman’s, Matt found much comfort and relaxation fishing along the West Canada Creek. He was founder and creator of the “Riff Raft”.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years Linda; his parents Donald & Mary of Ilion; two sons, Brian Reile and girlfriend Lisa Rice of Herkimer, and James Reile and wife Ashley of Charlotte, North Carolina; a daughter, Mary Reile of Herkimer; a brother, Donn S. Reile and girlfriend Maureen of Gloversville, his grandchildren, Brian G. Reile (Little B), and Traevian A. Reile Thom; his father and mother in-law, Donald J. & Josephine Thomas of Palm Bay Florida; sisters-in-law, Debbie Thomas of Palm Bay, Florida and Kathleen Arruda and husband Bill of Palm Bay, Florida; brother-in-law, Donald J. Thomas, Jr. of Palm Bay, Florida; aunts & uncles, Beverly & Ronald Reile of Ilion, Patricia & Paul Reile of Utica, Kathy Parker of New York Mills, NY and Gordon & Valerie Duncan of Herkimer; four niece, Rachel Reile, Jessica McCabe, Nicole Krause and Allison Arruda; nephew Bradley Reile and a cousin, Julie Orilio of Deerfield and his best friend, Timothy Ploff of Ilion.

Funeral services will be held on Monday July 25, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 220 North Washington St., Herkimer, NY 866-1500, with Reverend Laurie Percival Pauley, officiating.   Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the Funeral Home on Sunday July 24, 2011 from 4-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Limbs for Life Foundation, 218 E. Main St., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
