Ilion – Mary Gay, 90, of the Mohawk Valley Health Care, and a former Mohawk resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 7, 2016 at the nursing facility with her loving family by her side.

She was born December 3, 1926 in Miller Mills, NY the daughter of the late Harry and Sophie (Frankowicz) Teletnick and was educated in West Winfield schools.

Her marriage to Lloyd M. Gay took place on July 23, 1947 in South Columbia, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 23 years until Lloyd’s passing in 1970.

For many years, Mary along with her husband owned and operated the family farm. After she retired from the family farm, Mary was employed as a home health aide, working for several families throughout the Mohawk Valley.

She was a strong believer in God and valued her Protestant faith. Mary’s greatest accomplishment was her family. She shared a close bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking and baking and tending her gardens.

Survivors include her son, James Gay and wife Donna of Mohawk; two daughters, Connie Dunham and husband Daniel and Carol Gay all of Ilion; son-in-law, Stanley Cook of Frankfort; several grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was pre-deceased by her sister, Anna Teletnick on January 1, 2011; her grandson, Wayne D. Gay on May 22, 2011; her daughter, Cheryl Cook on June 29, 2015 and three brothers, Mike, Joe & Ted Teletnick.

Family and friends may call at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany Street, Herkimer, NY 866-1500, on Sunday December 11, 2016 from 2 to 3 pm. A prayer service will take place on Sunday (December 11, 2016) at 3:00 pm. Spring interment will take place at Mohawk Cemetery at a time to be announced. All memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
