Herkimer – Joseph A. Sanganetti, III, 82 a life long Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Friday October 14, 2016 at his home with his loving and devoted family by his side.

He was born October 31, 1933 in Herkimer the son of the late Joseph and Rose (LaVallo) Sanganetti, Jr. and was educated in Herkimer schools.

Joe was united in marriage to the former Mary Farley on February 7, 1953 at the Annunciation Church in Ilion, NY.

Mr. Sanganetti was a United States Army veteran, enlisting on April 15, 1953 and was honorably discharged on April 11, 1955 with the rank of Private.

A man dedicated to his family, Joe proved himself a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. In his leisure he enjoyed his trips to the casinos, especially his frequent visits to the Turning Stone.

Joe was a self-employed painting contractor of over 20 years, working throughout the Mohawk Valley. Prior to that he worked for 35 years as a butcher for the former C&L Wholesale on West Steele Street in Herkimer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; a daughter, RoseMarie LaMonte of Herkimer; his grandsons, Thomas Sanganetti of Herkimer and Joseph and wife Tracy and their children of Mohawk; a sister, Mary Ann and husband Garry Murphy of Herkimer; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including his special nieces and nephew, Debbie Luppino, Denise Brown and Tony Castellano and their families. He is also survived by his in-laws, Jean (Ron) Wilson, Cindy (Roy) Gengler, Tom Farley and Elaine Farley.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Joseph A. Sanganetti, IV on May 20, 2014 and a son-in-law, Gregory LaMonte on May 29, 2005

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at 1:30 pm from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, New Location, 527 East Albany Street, Herkimer, NY 866-1500 with Deacon James Bower, officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday October 19, 2016 from 11:00 am until the time of the services. Interment will take place on his birthday October 31, 2016 at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY at the convenience of his family.
