Janice I. (Himmel) Kehl

Mohawk – Janice I. Kehl, 81, of Mohawk passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2018 at St. Luke’s Medical Center, New Hartford, NY.

She was born September 13, 1936 in Newark, NJ the daughter of the late John and Irene (Bernauer) Himmel and graduated from Johnathan Dayton Regional High School, Springfield, NJ.

Janice was united in marriage to John R. Kehl on January 25, 1958. Even though their marriage ended they remained life long friends.

Before moving to the Mohawk Valley, Janice was employed at the Schieferstein’s Farm in Clark, New Jersey.  Prior to that, she was an accounting clerk, working in several business offices throughout New Jersey.

Janice was a woman devoted to her family, proving herself a loving and caring mother and grandmother. Her happiest times were cooking for her family and having them try her latest recipes. Janice was a New England Patriots fan.   In her leisure she enjoyed crocheting, bingo, jigsaw and word seek puzzles and collecting beanie babies.  Janice volunteered at ARC Herkimer assisting with their chorus and coffee hours.  She was a member of Saint Anthony and Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Herkimer, NY.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Klimchak and husband Michael of Clark, NJ; a son, John M. Kehl and wife Jody of Mohawk; seven grandchildren, Michael Klimchak, Bryan Klimchak and wife Erin, Matthew Klimchak and girlfriend, Danielle, Scott Klimchak and fiancée Gina, Chelsea Amidon and husband Chad, John R. Kehl and Tyler Kehl; three great grandchildren, Tessa Klimchak, Landon and Theodore Amidon, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and her ex husband, John R. Kehl of Clearwater, Florida.

She was pre-deceased by a son, Richard Kehl and two brothers, Robert and Lawrence Himmel.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday February 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY, 315-866-1500 with Deacon Ron Ste. Marie, officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family in New Jersey.
