Henry A. "Hank" Smith, Sr.

St. Johnsville - Henry A. "Hank" Smith, Sr., passed away peacefully on February 19, 2018 on his 91st birthday at Little Falls Hospital with his loving and devoted family by his side.

He as born February 19, 1927 in Little Falls the son of the late Arnold and Bessie (Canfield) Smith and was educated in St. Johnsville schools.

Mr. Smith was a United States Army Air Force veteran, enlisting on June 5, 1945 and was honorably discharged in November 10, 1946 with the rank of Corporal.

He was married to the former Georgiana M. Cheney on July 21, 1948 at the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church. The couple shard a blessed union of 65 years until the passing of Georgiana on January 26, 2014.

Hank was employed with the Laborers Local Union in Utica, NY until his retirement. He was of the Methodist faith.

Hank loved his family more than anything else; he was the happiest when he was with them. He treasured the quality time he spent with each and every one of his grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, Hank enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling with his family and spending the summers camping in the camper. In his earlier years he and his wife Georgiana enjoyed going out dancing.

Survivors include his son, Wayne "Chet" Smith and his wife Brenda of St. Johnsville; three daughters, Karen Shaut and her husband Robert, Connie Hickey and her husband Wayne and Sheila Buley all of St. Johnsville; 11 Grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, a sister, Evelyn Miles and her husband Thomas of Lassellsville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Henry A. "Hank" Smith, Jr., his brothers, Gerald, Richard, Arnold, Jr., Robert, Ralph and Marvin Smith, Sr., his sisters, Vivian Calhoun and Bessie Smida.

Funeral services will he held on Saturday February 24, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040 with Reverend Cory Jones, pastor of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY will take place in the spring with full military honors accorded. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday February 23, 2018 from 5 - 7 pm.
