Herkimer - Gladys M. Hallenbeck, 85 of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Monday October 9, 2017 at Little Falls Hospital with her loving family by her side

She was born January 29, 1932 in South Columbia, NY the daughter of the late Jesse and Mable (Pollock) Sanderson. Gladys was educated in South Columbia country school and also in Herkimer.

She was united in marriage to Frederick Hallenbeck on November 30, 1948. The couple shared a blessed union of 58 years until the passing of Frederick in 2006.

Gladys was last employed as a Home Health Aide, working through out the valley. Prior to that she worked at various knitting factories in Herkimer.

A woman devoted to her family, Gladys' life was centered around her loved ones. In her leisure she enjoyed needlework especially knitting, crocheting and plastic canvas, reading and doing puzzle books.

Survivors include her children, Diana (Kerri) Congdon and husband Ralph of Little Falls, Larry Hallenbeck and wife Rebecca of Ilion, Dawn Jones and husband Warren of Little Falls, Beatrice Barbur and husband Brian of Greenwich, NY and Jami Hallenbeck and Peter Schorer of Ilion; 16 grandchildren including Tiffany who was her care giver; 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson; sister-in-law, Joyce Sanderson and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, a baby brother, Albert, brothers, John (Jack) Sanderson and Raymond Sanderson, two granddaughters, Kali & Crystal.

In keeping with Gladys' wishes a grave side service will take place on Saturday November 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville, NY. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to NBT Bank), 527 East Albany St., Herkimer, NY 315-866-1500.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the nursing staff of Little Falls third Floor, Drs. Handy and Freund and Nurse Practitioner Sarah Null for the excellent care and compassion shown to Gladys and her family during her stay.
