St. Johnsville - Charles E. Gallt, 78, of the Town of Ephratah, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 17, 2018 at his home with his loving and devoted family by his side.
He was born April 14, 1939 in the Town of Springfield, NY the son of the late Charles and Leta (Johnson) Gallt and was educated in St. Johnsville schools.
His marriage to Alice Smith took place on November 25, 1960 at the Scotchbush Parsonage.
Until his retirement, Charles was employed at Key-Mark in Fonda, holding the position of Supervisor.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he cherished his times spent with his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than to watch his children and grandchildren grow up, while instilling in them the importance of traditional family values. In his leisure, Charles enjoyed woodworking. He mastered the art of cabinetry work and remodeled his kitchen with his own hand made cabinets and countertops.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Alice; three sons, Brian Gallt and his wife Darcia of New Auburn ,Wisconsin, Duane Gallt and his wife Sheila of St. Johnsville, and Edward Gallt and his wife Rose of St. Johnsville; four grandchildren Heather Gossler and her husband John, Tiffany, Brittany and Chad Gallt; a great grandson, Adain Gallt; a brother, Wayne Gallt and his wife Sue; three sisters, Joan Nagele, Carolyn Hulbert and her husband Lawrence and Gail Polidori and her husband Joe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Janet "Dewey" Mureness and two brothers, Lester and Barry Gallt.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday February 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, 518-568-7040, with Reverend R.W. Williams, of Mt. Valley Hospice, officiating. Burial at Fical Cemetery, Town of Ephratah will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to Little Falls Hospital, Dialysis Unit, 140 Burwell St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
