Mohawk - Barbara N. Holt, 91, of Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 30, 2017 at St. Luke's Medical Center, New Hartford, NY with her loving family by her side.

She was born March 21, 1926 in Oswego, NY the daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Kelly) Haynes and was a graduate of Oswego High School.

Her marriage to William A. Holt took place on February 10, 1959 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk, NY. The couple shared blessed union of 50 years until the passing of William on September 22, 2009.

For many years, Barbara was employed as an operator for New York Telephone.

Mrs. Holt was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church. Barbara volunteered her time for Catholic Charities reading program in the elementary schools. She was a former member of the Herkimer County Home Bureau, a former Sunday School Teacher at the Mohawk Methodist Church and a third order of the St. Francis of DiPaola Society member.

Barbara will be remembered as a gracious homemaker, matriarch, mother and grandmother. She was a woman of character and always placed her family first. She enjoyed spending time with her friend’s playing cards, celebrating birthdays and taking short trips.

Survivors include her children, Nancy Kryshchuk and husband Al of Mohawk, Jill Holt of Mohawk, James Holt and his companion Lori of Mohawk, Timothy Holt and LuAnn of Florida and Brian Holt of Mohawk; 11 loving grandchildren; Jim and Tara Holt, Tara and Andrew Abbott, William and Maria Holt, Alex and Danielle Kryshchuk, Rachel Arduini, Katie, Robert, Matthew and Ryan Holt and their mother JoAnne Nitka; five cherished great grandchildren, Tyler and Colton Abbott, JR, John, and Gianna Holt; and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by three brothers, Donald, Robert and James Haynes.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday April 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, with The Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor, officiating. Burial will take place later in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, NY. In keeping with Barbara's wishes there are no public calling hours. All memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, c/o 219 N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, NY 13350.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the physicians and staff of St. Luke's ICU, the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center and a special thank you to Dr. Gilbert Lawrence, Dr. Manzurula Sikder and George Markwardt, NP, for the care and compassion shown to Barbara and her family during her stay.
