St. Johnsville - Barbara J. Benson, 60, of St. Johnsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 15, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born on October 17, 1956 in Cohoes, NY the daughter of the late Robert L. and Ruth E. (Hoag) Proctor, Sr. Barbara was educated in Cohoes schools.

Her marriage to Frederick J. Benson took place on October 21, 1971 in Troy, NY.

Barbara was last employed with Price Chopper in Cohoes, NY where she was a cashier and later worked in the business office.

A woman dedicated to her family, Barbara's life was centered around her husband, children, grandchildren and siblings. She enjoyed reading, doing needlepoint, and watching TV, with her favorite programs including Law & Order, WWE wrestling and all Stephen King movies.

Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Frederick; her children, Robert (Phoebe) Benson of Troy, Shawn (Suzanne) Benson of Cohoes, Lisa (Carmen) Taylor of St. Johnsville and Justin Benson of Cohoes; her loving grandchildren, Kayla (Dominick, Jr.,) Bersani, C.J. Taylor and fiancée Sadie Heath, Melanie Taylor, Scott Taylor, Kristina Parker and Brittney Benson; 4 great grandchildren, Alicianna Bersani, Zachary Taylor, Alexandria Parker and Natalia Bersani; her siblings, Henry (Carol) Guilbeault of Ballston Spa, Leon (Jean) Guilbeault Sr. of Clifton Park, Robin (Anthony) Condolora of Cape Coral, Florida, Robert Proctor, Jr., of Waterford and Eva Alund of Wynantskill. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles including, Janet (William) Dennis of Watervliet and Arch (Carolyn) Proctor of Watervliet.

She was pre-deceased by her siblings, Raymond (Sandra) Guilbeault, and Olive (William) Race, great grandson, Dominick Bersani, III, and a brother-in-law, Ret SSG Ronald Alund.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 20, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, "the original family owned and operated funeral service"  (next to the Masonic Lodge), 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY 518-568-7040. Burial will follow at St. Johnsville Cemetery. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Wednesday July 19, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.  All memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
